A year later, dating site AdultFriendFinder was hacked, exposing more than 400 million user accounts. Several people died by suicide after the stolen data was posted online. In 2015, Ashley Madison, a dating site that encouraged users to have an affair, was hacked, exposing names, and postal and email addresses. Just months before the sale, Jack’d had a security lapse that exposed users’ private photos and location data.ĭating sites store some of the most sensitive information on their users, and are frequently a target of malicious hackers. Manhunt was launched in 2001 by Online-Buddies Inc., which also offered gay dating app Jack’d before it was sold to Perry Street in 2019 for an undisclosed sum.
